l Materials Science and Engineering
Major Overview: This major belongs to the materials category and has been recruiting undergraduates since 2001 and achieved specialty-free Recruitment since 2016. Based on engineering materials application, this major relies on the discipline of materials science and engineering, puts key emphasis on materials science theories and engineering quality education, and is the only major in southwest China that is mainly to cultivate talents in the field of traffic civil engineering materials. This major is also to cultivate hi-quality applied talents that have a high degree of social responsibility, strong practical skills, achieve all-round development of morals, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics and labor, and can solve the practical engineering problems with materials science and engineering theories and professional skills, work on such jobs as engineering application, quality test, technology management, materials design and development or teaching in traffic, design, science and technology and education departments.
Relying on National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory of Transportation and Civil Engineering Materials and first-level master degree authorization spot for materials science and engineering, it has achieved an integrated talent-cultivating system of “undergraduate-mater”. This major is the Chongqing municipal first-class major on the first batch, Chongqing Municipal key discipline in “13th Five-Year Plan”, Chongqing municipal characteristic major, Chongqing municipal “three-characteristic action plan” characteristic major. Besides, it consists of a strong teaching force, including 1 Chongqing municipal teaching team for materials science and engineering with 46 teachers (14 professors and 14 associate professors), 4 holding the titles of academic and technical leaders, Bayu scholar distinguished professor or Chongqing municipal young and middle-aged backbone teachers, 35 master’s or doctor’s supervisors, teachers with doctor’s degree accounting for 85%.
Major Objectives: Based on the transportation, serving west China, spreading all over the country, and facing the world, this major is to cultivate hi-quality applied talents that meet the needs of economic and social development, achieve all-round development of morals, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics and labor, have a broad basis on natural science and social science, solid materials science and engineering theories and professional skills, have a high degree of social responsibility, good professional ethics and strong practical skills, team awareness, innovation and entrepreneurship awareness, as well as the abilities for cooperation & communication, international perspective, organizational management and life-long learning, who are able to study, analyze and solve complex engineering problems in materials field, competent for such traffic civil engineering materials engineering related jobs as engineering application, quality test, technology management, materials design and development, etc..
Major Orientation: This major is oriented to new materials, integrates information, energy source and the new technology in intelligent manufacturing field, with an eye to optical-electric-magnetic properties & applications of materials, and mainly carries out materials & devices design, development and application for electronic information materials, energy conversion materials, additive manufacturing materials.
Major Objectives: This major is to cultivate hi-quality applied innovative talents that have solid materials physics basis, professional knowledge and skills, achieve all-round development of morals, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics and labor, have a broad basis on natural science and social science, have a high degree of social responsibility, good professional ethics and strong practical skills, team awareness, innovation and entrepreneurship awareness, as well as the abilities of cooperation & communication, international perspective, organizational management and life-long learning, who can , understand the construction, physical mechanism and property of materials from the micro level, and work on basic scientific research, new materials design, development and application in the field of functional materials, especially in nanomaterials, electronic information materials and new energy materials.
Core Courses: materials science fundamentals, solid state physics, material preparation technology, characterization Technique of materials, properties of materials, semiconductor physics and devices, fundamentals and application of chemical power sources, theoretical physics, nano materials and nano devices
Employment Direction: The graduates will mainly study further in graduate school, or work in information, energy source, new materials fields.
Major Features: This major takes the concept of “Deepening Foundation, Widening Caliber” as its guideline, focuses on the engineering application of mico-nanomaterials, electronic information materials and new energy materials, emphasizes the training of students’ scientific research and practical innovative abilities so that the students are cultivated with high adaptability and have a high percentage of further study.
3 Applied Chemistry
Major Orientation: This major takes chemistry as its main discipline, and cultivates chemistry-related and polytechnic compound talents on the principle of “Deepening Foundation, Widening Caliber, Extending practice”. Based on multi-filed engineering applicationsuch as chemistry & chemical engineering, “chemistry + materials”, “chemistry + traffic”, combining science and engineering, this major strives to construct a talents cultivation base that meet the needs of social and economic development.
Major Objectives: This major is to cultivate hi-quality applied talents that achieve all-round development of morals, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics and labor, have good scientific and cultural qualities, systematically master the basic knowledge, theories & skills of chemistry, as well as scientific research methods for materials chemistry, have innovative awareness and practical ability, preliminary abilities in product integration, new process study, development and design, who are familiar with research progress of this field and new knowledge of related filed.
Core Courses: inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, chemical engineering chemistry, instrumental analysis, materials chemistry, materials test and analysis, polymeric chemistry and physics
Employment Direction: Students can work on application research, science and technology development, production technology and management in the production, technology, administrative departments of new materials, traffic, environmental protection, refinery factories or industrial and mining enterprises; or scientific research and teaching in scientific research units or colleges and universities; or study for postgraduate in chemistry or materials as well as related disicipline.

It takes “traffic + chemistry” as its core, closely complying with the development needs of new chemical industrial technology and the developing needs for new materials, focusing on traffic functional materials, new-type green chemical industrial materials, environmental functional materials, to cultivate hi-quality innovative talents that have research potentials and international perspectives in new materials field.
